watermelon sorbet

I have two special treats for you today, folks. First of all, I’m honored to have one of my favorite bloggers guest post today. Whitney, of Elm Street Life, is the sweetest soul. She’s ultra creative, inspiring and beautiful to boot. She also has a gorgeous etsy shop that you need to check out! She’s too humble to have included that in her post 😉Second, today she’ll be sharing a recipe for delicious watermelon sorbet. I’m salivating just thinking about it! ha!

Hi Oh, Sweet Joy readers! It’s a privilege to be here today (LOVE Kim’s blog), and I’m thrilled to be sharing one of my favorite summer recipes.

When I graduated from nursing school in May, my parents got me the best possible gift… drum roll, please… an ice cream maker! I think it’s the absolute perfect gift for this growing pregnant girl who’s about to spend a long, hot summer in sundresses eating sorbet. (That’s the plan, at least.)
((( Kim interjecting here ::: look how cute Whitney’s baby bump is! )))

My first creation: watermelon sorbet. So easy and so delicious (adapted from this food.com recipe).
Ingredients:3/4 cup sugar1/2 cup water1/4 cup lime juice3 cups watermelon
Instructions:1. Cook the sugar, water, and lime juice together, stirring occasionally until the sugar is dissolved.2. Remove from heat and chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour.3. Cut up the watermelon and remove all seeds.4. Puree in a blender or food processor.5. Stir into chilled syrup.6. Freeze in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.7. Pack into an airtight container and store in the freezer.
Hope you enjoy this recipe! It’s become a staple in our home, and is a great first sorbet recipe to try out if you’re just venturing into the world of icy treats. 🙂 Happy summer!

Oh my YUMMMMM. I’ll be trying this this week at the cabin! Have y’all made any other sorbets that the world ((or uh…at least the Oh, Sweet Joy family)) needs to know about? Share below!
